GOBitumen

GOBitumen

GOIL PLC, in partnership with Société Multinationale de Bitumes (SMB), Côte d'Ivoire, have constructed a Bitumen Terminal and Production Plant with a total capacity of approximately 7,500MT at Tema, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.

The main operations of the facility include:

  • The transfer of bitumen from Bitumen Tanker vessels at the Oil Jetty to the Terminal.
  • The storage of bitumen AC 10 & AC 20 into dedicated tanks
  • Production of Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB)
  • Production of Bitumen Emulsions
  • Laboratory testing for quality of products
  • Distribution of products through bitumen bulk trucks, bitutainers and drums

The Terminal mainly consists of:

  •  Two (2) bitumen storage tanks of capacity 1X4,000 MT (AC 20) & 1X2,000 MT (AC 10).
  •  One (1) Blend Stock tank of 450 MT capacity
  • 2X15 MT Mixing tanks (for PMB)
  • 3X133 MT Letdown tanks (for PMB)
  • 2X133 MT Emulsion Storage tanks

Cargo Receipt Pipeline

  • 3 Km Cargo receipt pipeline connects the Oil Jetty and the Terminal

Internal Pipelines

  • Internal pipelines for transfer between tanks and delivery at loading rack in the Terminal.

Laboratory

  • A well-equipped laboratory for testing quality of all the grades of bitumen and making sure it meets required specifications.

POLYMER MODIFIED BITUMEN (PMB)

Polymer modified bitumen is the process of modifying the bitumen with polymer.
Polymer is added to address the 3 main pavement distress modes namely:

  • Permanent Deformation (Rutting)
  • Fatigue Cracking
  • Low temperature Cracking

The ideal modifier would improve all the distress modes.

GOIL’s formulation uses the Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) Polymer in the production of the PMB and has been proven to be a stable product and excellent performance.
PMB makes road very durable and therefore reduces maintenance cost.

BITUMEN EMULSIONS

Bitumen Emulsion is Liquefied type of bitumen with low viscosities and can be handled at low temperatures, low energy consumption and environmentally friendly.

Our production process involves the addition of water, acid and an emulsifier to the base bitumen. The mixture then goes through a colloid mill and a heat exchanger to obtain the final product.

PRODUCTS AVAILABLE AT THE TERMINAL

BASE PRODUCTS      PMB EMULSIONS
