The GOIL PLC-sponsored National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) once again brought together Ghana's brightest young scientific minds in a thrilling regional battle. Leading senior high schools in the Central and Western regions battled it out in this year's competition of brains and wit.
The NSMQ, Ghana's premier academic competition, aims to promote the study of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at the secondary school level and celebrate academic excellence nationwide. This year's regional championship did not disappoint, dishing out sizzling, rapid-fire rounds full of tough questions and incredible displays of knowledge.
Central Region: Wesley Girls' High School Takes the Crown
The Central Regional contest featured a list of power-house schools including;
• Wesely Girls' Senior High School,
• University Practice Senior High School,
• Mfantsipim School, and
• St. Augustine's College.
In the hotly contested battle, it was Wesley Girls' SHS that emerged the winner, showing unfaltering confidence, strategic teamwork, and an excellent grasp of basic scientific concepts.
One of the highlights of the event was St. Augustine's College surprising the audience as they answered a notoriously difficult physics question correctly, earning them spontaneous applause as well as academic respect.
Western Region: GSTS Rises to the Occasion
In the Western Region, the competition was equally fierce. Representing Sekondi College, Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS, and Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), the zonal championship afforded another showcase of exceptional STEM prowess. GSTS eventually claimed the first position, impressing judges and spectators alike with their precision, quick thinking, and good scientific logic.
The victory of the team was well-deserved, reflecting the school's long tradition of academic distinction and excellence in the sciences.
GOIL PLC, the headline sponsor of the NSMQ this year, continues to be a vital driver of STEM education development across the country. GOIL’s sponsorship of the quiz promotes not just academic excellence, but also inspires the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
Congratulations to Wesley Girls' Senior High School and Ghana Secondary Technical School on winning the well-deserved Central and Western regional championships, respectively.
As the competition advances to the national level, the spotlight remains on Ghana’s brilliant young minds, poised to shape the future of science and technology in Africa.
